Dear Parent:

The Wayne County Board of Education, in compliance with state law, will again this year

incorporate Sexuality and AIDS education in the 6th - 8th grade science and Health classes. The

curriculum has been approved by the local Sexuality and AIDS Education and Advisory

Committee and adopted by the Wayne County Board of Education.

In order to answer questions you may have regarding the classroom curriculum, a parent meeting

for 8th grade and high school will be held Tuesday, March 18, at the Wayne County Tech

Center at 1355 West Orange Street. The Tech Center is located across the parking lot from

James E. Bacon Elementary School. The meeting will begin at 5:00 p.m. At the meeting, a

brief overview of the curriculum and instructional activities will be provided, and we will answer

any questions you may have. There will be a separate parent meeting for 6th & 7th grade at the

beginning of the second semester. Correspondence for those grades will be sent at a later date.

An overview of the instructional content will be sent home on the first day of these units. Please

review the content and encourage family discussions on these topics to reinforce your values in

regard to each lesson. An effective Human Development and/or Sexuality and AIDS Education

program must have a strong partnership between the school and parents.

If, for whatever reason, you choose to restrict your child from this instruction, you must contact

the school principal in writing. Notification in writing for exclusion from this program must be

renewed annually. If you have any questions regarding Sexuality and AIDS Education classes,

please call me. These lessons will not begin prior March 18, 2025.

Sincerely,

Brenda D. Edenfield
