The Wayne County School Nutrition Program is committed to serving nutritious, well-balanced meals to students daily.  The school nutrition program participates in the National School Lunch Program, National School Breakfast Program, and Seamless Summer Program.  All programs are regulated and funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) with the School and Community Nutrition Unit of the Georgia Department of Education overseeing the program administration.  We strive to help build healthy children ready to learn.

Since 1997, Dr. Rindy Trapnell has been the Director of School Nutrition. Under her leadership are two central office staff members.  Valerie Jordan is the School Nutrition Bookkeeper and has been part of the Wayne County School System since 2022.  Samantha Thornton is the School Nutrition Assistant Director and has been part of the Wayne County School Nutrition program since 2003.

There are 8 operating school cafeterias.  Each site is supervised by the cafeteria manager.  All cafeteria managers, are ServSafe Certified.  Currently, the program employs approximately 65 workers.  We offer breakfast and lunch at all sites.  USDA Child Nutrition guidelines and standards are followed in the preparation and service of meals.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Wayne County School Nutrition Program will be a part of the education process of the school by providing students with nutritious meals and nutrition education experiences that promote healthy children who are ready to learn.

Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) All Wayne County Schools are participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Through CEP, all schools may offer meals at no charge to all students. This eliminates the procedure of distributing and processing meal applications.
